Record Crowd Attends Emerging Leaders Summit

ONTARIO — Students crowded into Treasure Valley Community College’s John J. Easley Gymnasium Wednesday night for the annual Emerging Leaders Summit.

The summit is designed to raise students’ confidence and get them thinking about what they want to do with their future. The event allows high school and college students to meet leaders in the community and potentially find a direction for their future.

This year’s theme was, “I am a Masterpiece.” It focused on sending a message that each student is unique and capable of success, as long as they be themselves.

The climax of the event was a talk by David Edward Garcia, a comedian and motivational speaker who specializes in teens and the issues they face in high school.

Garcia radiated energy as he flailed his arms, jumped in place and jogged around the gym, all while speaking about his own life experiences and how each student in the gym was a “masterpiece.”
